Welcome to Westvale Park Primary Academy
Hello and a very warm welcome to all of our new families joining us this September!
Starting school is a big milestone—not just for your child, but for you too—and we’re so excited to begin this journey with you. At Westvale Park, we know how important it is to help every child feel safe, happy, and confident from the very beginning.
This page has been created to support you through the transition into school life. Here, you’ll find key information, helpful tips, and updates to guide you over the coming weeks.
We understand that every child is unique, and we’re here to work in partnership with you to make sure your child settles in smoothly. Whether it’s your first time as a school parent or you're joining us again with younger siblings, we’re always here to help.
If you have any questions—big or small—please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We can’t wait to get to know you and your wonderful children.
Warmest wishes,
Charlotte Goswell

FAQ's
What does my child need to bring to school on the first day?
On your child's first day to school, we ask them to bring a splash suit, wellies and spare clothes in a carrier bag (pants, socks, trousers and top).
What does my child need to bring daily?
In Nursery we ask children to bring a water bottle and a waterproof coat.
In Reception we ask children to bring your child's book bag (with a reading record once they receive it), a water proof coat, a fruit snack (1 piece) and a water bottle.
What will the first day look like?
Staff will be playing with your children and getting to know them. The children will come together for small carpet sessions as a group.
How will you help if my child is upset?
We will comfort your child if they are upset by sitting with them, playing with them and distracting them. We will of course give them a cuddle if they need it.
What should my child wear to nursery?
Children in Nursery are welcome to wear either the nursery uniform or their own clothes. Whatever you choose, please ensure your child is dressed in sensible, comfortable clothing that allows them to run, climb, and jump safely during play.
Nursery is a hands-on, active environment, and children often come home with evidence of a busy day—whether it's from outdoor play, painting, or messy activities. We kindly ask that children do not wear their best clothes, but instead wear items that you don’t mind getting a little messy.
What if my child has additional needs?
Arrange to speak to your child's class teacher who can work with you to support your child's transition into school.
