This half term, children will be exploring the exciting topics of Space and Transport, building their curiosity about the world beyond their classroom and how people travel within it. Through stories, play, investigations and hands-on experiences, children will develop their understanding while building key skills across all areas of learning.
Children will learn about space and our planet Earth, including the Moon Landing and what life is like for astronauts in space. They will explore ideas such as zero gravity and begin to understand where we live in relation to our town, London, the UK and the wider world. Children will also discover the important role astronauts play in science and society and how space technology has changed over time.
Alongside this, children will explore transport past and present, with a particular focus on London. They will learn about different types of vehicles, how transport has changed over time and why these changes have happened. Children will investigate how vehicles move, compare their uses, and think about how transport choices can impact our environment.
Throughout the half term, children will develop their language, creativity, physical skills and collaboration, using imaginative play, storytelling, music, movement and problem-solving to deepen their learning.
Supporting Your Child at Home
You can support your child by:
Talking about different types of transport you see on journeys
Reading space or vehicle-themed books together
Watching short, child-friendly clips about space or transport
Encouraging walking or eco-friendly choices and discussing why they matter
Asking open questions such as “What do you think would happen if…?”
These simple conversations help bring learning to life and strengthen children’s understanding.
