At Westvale Park Primary Academy, keeping healthy — both physically and mentally — is central to our curriculum and daily practice. Each week, pupils receive two high-quality PE lessons. One is delivered by our dedicated school PE teacher, ensuring consistency, curriculum depth and progression across all year groups. The second is taught by our team of qualified sports coaches, who bring specialist expertise and enthusiasm to enrich our pupils’ sporting experiences.
In addition, all pupils participate in the ‘daily mile’ on our newly installed running track, developing stamina, resilience and a sense of achievement. These opportunities foster positive attitudes towards physical activity and wellbeing, supporting pupils to maintain healthy lifestyles.
In Key Stage 1, our curriculum focuses on developing the fundamental movement skills that form the foundation of all physical activity. As pupils progress into Key Stage 2, these skills are applied with increasing confidence and precision across a wide range of sports. We aim to nurture a lifelong love of sport and physical activity, helping every child to develop the physical competence, confidence and character needed to thrive.
A particular highlight of our curriculum is the inclusion of Quidditch, a creative and engaging sport that captivates pupils’ imagination and encourages teamwork, strategy and inclusivity. Through innovative lessons such as this, we ensure every child feels inspired and motivated to participate.
Our PE curriculum promotes leadership, collaboration and self-reflection. Each lesson is carefully structured to enable all pupils to succeed, regardless of starting point, and progression maps clearly identify opportunities to develop performance, evaluate impact and understand health and fitness.
At Westvale Park, we are proud of a curriculum that is broad, inclusive and ambitious. It instils a genuine passion for sport, empowering pupils to lead active, healthy lives and to carry forward the values of perseverance, respect and teamwork into all aspects of their education and beyond.
