Swans Class

Welcome to the Swans Class page.

Class Teacher: Mr L. Jerromes

Below is some useful information about our class.

Reading

  • We encourage you to read with your children at home at least 5 times a week to foster a love of reading with your child. Children have a ZPD in their spelling book so they know which colour book they should be reading.
  •  We encourage your child to change their book as and when they need to in our class libraries so that they will always have a book to read.
  • Once the children have finished reading a book, use this link to visit the Accelerated Reader site and take a quiz at home on the book they have just finished.

If you are unable to take quizzes at home, please inform Mr Jerromes so he can organise time for a quiz to be taken at school.

There are whole class and individual rewards linked to accelerated reader.

PE

  • Children need to come to school wearing their school PE kit on their designated P.E. day.
  • Swan's P.E. day is Friday.
  • Please remember to remove earrings before they come to school on a Friday.

Homework

  • Children are asked to read their books at home as much as possible. Please ensure the children read at least 5 times a week.
  • Children should complete Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes on the books they have read within 24 hours of finishing the book.
  • Play TT Rockstars for at least 10 minutes 4/5 times a week to improve their speed and recall of multiplication. They need to score at least 150 points per week.
  • Spellings will come home on a Monday and be tested the following Monday. This will usually be 10 words a week.
  • Over the course of the week, children will need to complete 30 minutes using Maths Whizz. This will be checked on a Friday. Your child has their log-in details. We also have a maths-whizz lesson at school once a week so they are familiar with logging on to the site.

AUTUMN TERM

In the autumn term, our overarching topic is called Walk Like an Egyptian, with a historical emphasis on Ancient Egypt and rivers in history and geography. Science will see us looking at the digestive system and habitats.

Attached is our timetable, an overview of the term's learning, and the knowledge organisers for science, history and geography.
