Equality at Westvale Park Primary Academy
As a public body, we have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to actively promote equality within our school.
The Equality Act requires us to have due regard to the need to:
eliminate discrimination and other conduct prohibited by the Act
advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
Protected characteristics include race, disability, sex, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, and gender reassignment. We recognise that all groups with protected characteristics are part of the human family and therefore have equal status and equal rights.
Our Equality Objectives
We are committed to:
ensuring our policies and practices continue to advance equality
developing pupils’ understanding of equality and their commitment to eliminating discriminatory practices and beliefs
deepening awareness among staff and pupils of the strengths and needs of all protected groups
reviewing our culture and policies regularly to improve how we promote equality and tackle discrimination
celebrating the rich variety of individual and group characteristics within our school and the wider world
How we put this into practice
When reviewing policies, we always consider equality implications and identify them where relevant.
We analyse progress and attainment for all pupils, including specific groups. Where we see variation, we look carefully at underlying reasons so that support is targeted effectively and sensitively.
We ensure that the whole curriculum is accessible to all pupils, making adaptations where needed.
We model and teach the British values of respect and tolerance, treating everyone with dignity. If a child shows intolerance or disrespect, we respond through education and support to help them develop greater understanding.
At Westvale Park Primary Academy, we view equality not just as a legal duty but as a moral one. It underpins the culture of our school and our commitment to every child’s success.
