Reading

• Children are expected to read at home at least 5 times per week to improve both reading comprehension and fluency.  Accelerated Reader (our reading incentive that follows RED TED) will be introduced to children soon, and they should quiz as soon as they have finished a reading book.  To access Accelerated Reader at home, click on this link: https://global-zone61.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/8045754
• Children will have the opportunity to change their book in class once they have completed and passed the book's Accelerated Reader quiz.  In Year 2, children choose their own reading books.
• Ensure that reading books are in school every day.

Physical Education (P.E.)

• Otters Class have P.E. lessons every Monday.
• Children must come to school dressed in the school's P.E. uniform on P.E. days.
• Ear studs, hoops and rings are not permitted on P.E. days; please make sure that all jewellery is removed from your child before coming to school.
• P.E. will take place inside and outside during the Autumn Term, depending on the weather.

Home Learning Expectations

Reading
Children should read with an adult for 10–15 minutes each day. Once a book is finished, they should complete a quiz on Accelerated Reader within 24 hours.

Maths
Maths home learning from the White Rose book is set every Monday and must be completed by the following Monday. This will be marked in class. Incomplete learning will need to be finished during break time.

Spelling
Each Monday, children record five ‘tricky’ words in their Spelling Log. These are tested the following Monday. Full marks earn a special 'spelling award' sticker.  Parents can keep track of their child's score by looking at the mark recorded in the Spelling Log.  Any words spelt incorrectly will be circled, so parents know which words to practise again at home.

Times Tables
To build fluency, daily practice is essential. We recommend using Times Tables Rock Stars for at least 5 minutes a day. Usage is monitored, and children not keeping up will be auto-enrolled in our Times Table Club.

Forest School

• Your child will attend a Forest School session once a fortnight.
• Clothing will be kept at school. 
• Children should have wet weather suits for these sessions to ensure that they are covered and safe.
• Children are split into either Group A or Group B.
• Children are actively encouraged to become very involved in Forest School life. Therefore, please do not be surprised if they have mud on their outdoor clothing; it is all part of the experience of developing the whole child and their resilience skills.
